IWD 2022: #BreakTheBias

Imagine a gender equal world.

A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Together we can forge women's equality.

Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

Next week is International Women’s Day 2022. How are you marking this significant day in your classroom?

Visit here for some official International Women’s Day classroom activities.

This date is a wonderful opportunity for you to highlight in your classroom the stories of some First Nations women who have driven or are driving important change. Some examples might include:

You might like to check out this SBS article from a few years ago which highlights a number of notable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Or this NITV article on ‘20 inspiring black women who have changed Australia’.

We also wanted to take a moment to use this date to raise awareness around an organisation we here at Riley Callie Resources are passionate about - Cape York Girl Academy. Located just north of Cairns at Wangetti Beach, Cape York Girl Academy is Australia’s first boarding high school designed for young Indigenous mothers and their babies to live and learn together.

“Many young women on Cape York fall victim to a vicious cycle of social dysfunction, teenage pregnancy and disengagement from education and employment. Cape York Girl Academy gives these girls a chance to recover their education, their culture and become a powerful force for change.”

You can donate to this important organisation via their website here. One of the ways we are supporting CYGA is through sales of our Emmie May x Riley Callie Doll collab. $5 from the sale of each of these dolls is donated to Cape York Girl Academy.
