Black Cockatoo follows Mia, a 13-year-old Aboriginal girl from a remote community in the Kimberley, as she discovers the strength to stand up for herself, her culture and her family.

When Mia rescues an injured dirran (black cockatoo), her totem animal, she becomes determined to protect it. As she navigates changes within her family and watches her brother distance himself from their culture, Mia begins to discover her own inner strength and what it means to stand up for what she believes is right.
